How To Easily Open A Young Coconut

So many times I see people struggling to get into one of nature’s finest bounties: young coconuts.

Even if they’ve been taught the ‘correct’ way to get them open with a cleaver, using the heal of the blade to bust them open, it can still be intimidating to actually do.

In this video I show you an easier way to get one of these babies open, but with a bonus…

You have a really nice and very impressive and unusual bowl to serve soup in, wowing your guests.

Thanks to Moi, aka “Big Moi” for turning me on to this way of opening coconuts.

sorry to be picky, but what is it then? We eat young green coconuts all the time in Ghana and as soon as you cut off a bit of the green outer layer the white oxidises and goes brown very quickly. It does bother me a bit that they are removing this prior to shipping and obviously it’s been treated with something to prevent mould and oxidisation.

There’s clearly some kind of preservative on there, but Matt Monarch had it tested for formaldehyde and it came back negative.  As for what it actually is, I’m not sure.

Russell, I enjoy young coconut but recently heard that it is packed in formaldehyde when it is shipped from Thailand. Do you now about that, or how to find coconuts that are not tampered with? Thank you.

Perfect timing, I just went to the Asian Market and bought four young coconuts! Russell you are so wonderful! Perfect timing on the email in my in box today!!

The general consensus is that after testing it is NOT formaldehyde.
Matt Monarch of The RawFoodWorld.com had them tested.
